Back home after a hard day's work in the fields of Pampore, this Kashmiri family separates the stamens from the flower petals of the saffron crocus or Crocus sativus flowers that they have collected after harvest from their fields. The stamens are then dried and then sold in the market, for thousands of dollars per kilogram, making saffron one of the most expensive spices on earth!
