The plucking of saffron flowers is a family affair. Saffron flowers are ready for plucking by the end of October. The families that own saffron fields mostly themselves converge on the fields to pluck flowers. Flower pickers pluck flowers into baskets or in their phiran and once they are full, dump the flowers onto a sheet of cloth kept at the side of the field. At the end of the day, the sheets are rolled and the flowers are taken home, where the stamens are separated from the flowers and stocked for drying and packaging. The leftover of the saffron flowers is said to be used as a manure in mushroom farms by some people.
