These rather alluring looking Ficus figs are not really human edible. Actually, they are edible but not very palatable! Birds love them, however, and a community repast of hornbills, barbets and bulbuls take in the feast! The highly nutritious fig fruit clambering on the trunks on the Gular tree near a busy traffic intersection in Delhi. Ants running all over the fruits on the tree trunk. Fruits in different stages of maturation are seen up close. Ants swarming the green fruit which is full of white latex. The latex is used in many traditional medicines. Gular trees are common in India and are a sacred tree for Hindus. The different parts of the trees are of medicinal uses and the fruit is highly nutritious. Gular and Banyan are two different species of Ficus - glomerata and benghalensis.
