In the cool shade of the forest floor, a shy bird steps into view—its slender frame and calm presence marking it as either a Tickell's Thrush (Turdus unicolor) or a male Indian Blackbird (Turdus simillimus). Both belong to the thrush family (Turdidae), quiet residents of the Indian subcontinent, known for their soft songs and gentle behaviour. The bird pauses, listening to the faint rhythms of the earth. A flicker of movement catches its eye. With a swift, precise motion, it pecks at the ground and rises with a small insect held firmly in its chonch. For a moment it stands still, chest lifting proudly, as if acknowledging a tiny triumph in the vastness of the forest.
