This footage shows a Stilt Sandpiper (Calidris himantopus) actively foraging for food in the salt pans of Sambhar Lake, Rajasthan. The bird is seen wading through shallow saline water, using its slightly downcurved bill to probe the wet substrate for small invertebrates. Its long legs and deliberate, methodical movements are well adapted to feeding in open, muddy, and salt-encrusted habitats. Sambhar Lake, India’s largest inland saltwater lake, serves as an important stopover and wintering site for migratory shorebirds traveling along the Central Asian Flyway.
