This footage captures a flock of greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) and lesser flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor) foraging for food in the salt pans of Sambhar Lake, Rajasthan. The birds can be seen feeding in shallow saline water, sweeping their specialized bills through the mud and brine to filter algae, plankton, and small crustaceans. Sambhar Lake, India’s largest inland saltwater wetland, serves as a critical feeding and resting site for migratory flamingos during winter months. A striking feature visible in the footage is the variation in plumage color among individual birds, ranging from white with black markings to soft pink and deeper rosy tones.
