Ploceous philippinus, the Common Weaver, known as the Baya in India, is a familiar sight in open country near grasslands and farmlands. They nest on palm trees or on open trees in agriculture, such as this Ber or Zizyphus tree. The males being in grasses blades that they have torn off from the Kas grasses, to use as nesting material. They deftly weave them into their nests and once semi-ready, the males attract females to mate with them and join in the breeding process. They energetically display and try to impress the females with the nest-building activities when the females visit. This was documented by Salim Ali, the Indian ornithologist, in great detail.
