Rare footage of a macaque eating a bird, at the edge of the mangrove swamp forests of the Sunderbans in West Bengal, India. In the mangrove swamps of the Sunderbans in India, these macaques actually bring a bird to the water's edge, in order to wash it and eat it. Who has heard of a macaque practising hygiene? How many animals actually wash and then eat their food? Having found a dead bird or killed a bird, the Rhesus macaque monkey proceeds to meticulously wash it in the muddy tidal creek and mangrove swamp and then eats the bird bit by bit, after breaking off a wing and a leg, one at a time.
