Kharsali is a Himalayan village in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, surrounded by forested ridges and terraced fields. Houses and guesthouses with green, red and blue metal roofs cluster along the hillside. A temple with a pagoda-style spire and a golden finial stands beside the winding village road. Move to the roadside bus stand and parking area, where buses wait near multi-storey lodges and shops. A rocky riverbed runs below the steep, wooded mountainside as clouds move across the ridgeline. Kharsali is associated with the winter worship of Goddess Yamuna and is an important stop for pilgrims travelling towards Yamunotri via Janki Chatti. The footage shows the village’s landscape, transport, accommodation and role in Himalayan pilgrimage tourism.
