A morning arati or prayer to the river Ganga or Ganges at the Garhmukteshwar ghat, with an elaborate shed that must have been prepared with government funds. Whether such an enormous covered shed with so many facilities actually accentuates the religious experience is subject to argument. Surely, religion has continued on the banks of the Ganga without such elaborate and expensive structures, for centuries... A priest wears a mask and rotates his lit lamps while others ring bells and pray. He offers the lamps to the Ganga river, and prays in obeisance. A havan kund is meanwhile lit by the river...
