Young boy swimming in Pazhayar river, Kanyakumari. The Pazhayar River is a small river, starts at Shorlacode, about 18 kilometres (11 mi) north-west of Nagercoil. Its a polluted river as it collects drainage of Thovalai, Ananthanar and Nanjil nadu puthanar channel passing through Thazhakudi,Vellamadam villages. Kanyakumari district is the southern-most district in Tamil Nadu. It is the second largest district in the state in terms of population density and the second most urbanized -- next only to Chennai district. The district derives its name from the Goddess Kanniya Kumari Amman enshrined in the temple located at the southern-most tip of main-land India, Kanyakumari.
