A series of snake sightings in the past one month has led wildlife experts to believe that there is a thriving population of reptiles in and around Delhi. Five snakes have been rescued in the capital—three of them giant pythons—recently. While most snake species normally hibernate in winter, the fact that they are being spotted so often, and in unexpected places, shows that their habitats are disturbed, say experts. They blame this on large-scale construction work that is taking place in the city. Recently, a cobra was spotted inside an ATM booth. A couple of months ago another cobra was seen in a bathroom of a fourth-floor apartment. Last month, a 12-foot python was spotted on the Okhla barrage.
