An Indian Scops Owl (Otus bakkamoena), a small nocturnal owl species native to the Indian subcontinent. The owl is seen roosting quietly during daylight hours while blending almost perfectly into its surroundings through its bark-like camouflage plumage. Its mottled brown, grey, and buff feather patterns closely resemble tree bark, helping it remain hidden from predators and disturbance. The bird also displays the species’ characteristic short ear tufts, which can be raised or lowered depending on mood and alertness. Although its eyes appear partially closed in this daytime resting posture, Indian Scops Owls are known for their dark brown eyes and highly nocturnal hunting behavior.
