Sambhar Lake, India’s largest inland saltwater lake, flamingos create a spectacular natural display as they gracefully walk through shallow saline waters and suddenly take flight in synchronized flocks. During the winter migration season, thousands of Greater and Lesser Flamingos arrive here, transforming the white salt flats into a vibrant pink landscape. While walking, flamingos feed by filtering algae, plankton, and small crustaceans from the mineral-rich water. Their slow, elegant movements contrast beautifully with the dramatic moment of takeoff — wings spreading wide to reveal striking black flight feathers against soft pink plumage. The reflective surface of Sambhar Lake enhances the visual impact, especially during sunrise and sunset when golden light silhouettes the flying flocks.
