With its black necklace, this female teetar is panting in the summer sun - so extreme is the day-time heat in June that it goes up to 52 degrees Celcius in the sun! This game bird is found mostly in grassland, open agricultural forests and is locally names as Safed Teetar. Notice the plumage of the bird up close. A small gamebird with an orangish face and fine barring throughout. Males and females are similar. Occurs in open grassy areas such as dry grasslands, scrub, and agricultural land. Often found in groups. Call, sometimes given simultaneously by several birds, is a loud repetitive “kateetar-kateetar”.
