These Plain Tigers are filmed mating on Amaryllis lily buds and other plants nearby. A pair of Plain Tiger or African Monarch are captured on film in their reproductive position sitting on a thistle plant. Butterflies mate by facing away from each other. Here we see the male clasping the female with the clasping mechanism the male possess in its abdomen. The male butterflies are also nectaring in the flowers nearby. On a closer look the butterflies seem to have only four legs but one pair of the legs have been reduced to a brush like forefeet which is used in mud puddling and feeding in general.
