A beautiful Purple Sunbird perched within the green surroundings of Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi. One of the most common nectar-feeding birds of the Indian subcontinent, the Purple Sunbird is a vital pollinator and a familiar sight in gardens, orchards, forests, and urban green spaces. The bird appears to be a female or a male in non-breeding plumage, displaying olive-brown upperparts and bright yellow underparts. Its slender, downward-curved bill is perfectly adapted for feeding on nectar from flowers, while also allowing it to catch small insects and spiders. Purple Sunbirds are energetic and highly active birds, often darting rapidly between flowering plants. Although capable of hovering briefly while feeding, they usually prefer to perch as they extract nectar. Their quick movements
