Behind the protection of a lichen-riddled rock on an open exposed high altitude windy meadow grows a flowering clump of Primula macrophylla var. moorcroftiana, one of the most beautiful special of Himalayan wild flowers at Sarsarpatal / Sarsoan patal meadow in the inner Nanda Devi Sanctuary, Uttarakhand Himalaya, India. A gregarious high-altitude Primula of open moist ground and rocky slopes close to the summer snowline, widely distributed throughout our area but nowhere common. The flowers are very variable both in colour and form, but usually grow in compact terminal clusters of 5-20.
