A Southern Flying Lizard (Draco dussumieri) resting on the bark of a tree in Thattekad Bird Sanctuary. Native to the Western Ghats of India, this remarkable reptile belongs to the Agamidae family and is renowned for its ability to glide between trees using specialized wing-like membranes called patagia. The lizard displays a slender body with mottled grey and brown coloration that closely resembles the texture and tones of the surrounding bark, providing exceptional camouflage against predators. Its long tail extends downward along the trunk, while its cryptic pattern makes it nearly invisible among the cracks and crevices of the tree.
