A pair of Indian palm squirrels, belonging to the genus Funambulus, can be seen perched together on a tree branch, displaying their typical alert and energetic behavior. These small mammals are easily recognized by their slender bodies, bushy tails, and distinct pale stripes running along their backs. Their grey-brown fur helps them blend perfectly with tree bark and urban surroundings. In many parts of northern India, including Delhi, the species most commonly observed is the Five-striped Palm Squirrel (Funambulus pennantii), while southern regions often host the Three-striped Palm Squirrel (Funambulus palmarum).
