Danaid Eggfly or Hypolimnas misippus butterfly in a garden in Delhi. Help us confirm if this is indeed Hypolimnas misippus and not Hypolimnas bolina, flutterby folks! Hypolimnas misippus, the Danaid eggfly, mimic, or diadem, is a widespread species of nymphalid butterfly. It is well known for polymorphism and mimicry. Males are blackish with distinctive white spots that are fringed in blue. This species is legally protected in India under Schedule I as well as Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Species should have been listed only under one schedule, but this species is clearly an error.
