Thol Lake bird sanctuary in Mehsana district, about 50 km from Ahmedabad on Kadi-Sanand road, has long been a favourite abode for variety of birds. Different species of birds can be sighted at Thol Sanctuary, Gujarat. The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the most widespread species of the flamingo family. It is found in parts of Africa, southern Asia (Bangladesh and coastal regions of Pakistan and India), and southern Europe (including Spain, Albania, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal, Italy and the Camargue region of France).
