Kanwar Yatris celebrate Kanwar Yatra with deep devotion, discipline, and collective enthusiasm. The pilgrimage begins with yatris travelling to sacred places such as Haridwar, Gaumukh, or Gangotri to collect Ganga Jal. They carry this holy water in a decorated Kanwar, a bamboo structure with pots (kalash) tied at both ends. Throughout the journey, Yatris chant “Bol Bam” and devotional hymns, expressing their reverence for Lord Shiva. Many walk barefoot, perform group aartis, and maintain a vow of purity during the entire yatra. Some join large devotional processions accompanied by music, drums, and saffron flags, creating a festive spiritual atmosphere on the roads.
