These places are alluring, not only or their scenic beauty, but also because they provide an opportunity to be close to nature and far from thronging crowds. Some of these destinations off the regular tourist circuit in the Kumaon region are Lohaghat, Pithoragarh, Kausani and Chaukori. Flanked by dense Deodar trees, Lohaghat is situated on the Lohawati river. The tourist lodge over there gives a magnificent view of the resplendent valleys. The Mayawati Ashram of Swami Vivekanand is yet another place where a troubled soul might find supper. Mount Abbot in the vicinity of Lohaghat gives an outstanding view of the extensive snow-capped peaks of the Kumaon, urging the traveller to muse in a reverie of sorts.
