Yamunotri the source of Yamuna lies 209Km from Rishikesh. Motorable roads are available only upto hanuman chatti, whereupon it is an up hill trek along the river. The secared town of kedarnath stands backdrop of the impressive kedernath peaks. Kedernath is located at Rudraprayag, the holy confluence of rivers Mandakini and Alaknanda. An important stopover on the way is Ukhimath. During the bitterly cold winter, the idol of lord shiva is brought down from Kedernath and housed at Ukhimath. The journey to Kedernath by bus ends at Gaurikund. From where the pilgrim's walk along the Mandakini to reach the temple. The temple is home to the beautifully craft stone statue of lord shiva.
