Seeped in mythologies, Lakhamandal, another quiet retreat of the Garhwal Himalayas. Associated with the epic of the Mahabharata, Lakhamandal has temples hailing Lord Shiva, Parshuram and the Pandavs. The soul stirring pictorial charm of Lakhamandal coupled with it's legendary associations has made it one of the most sought after, off-beat destinations in Garhwal. Garhwal and Kumaon are a treasure trove of myths and legends. Virtually every peak has an association with one of the Hindu gods from the vast pantheon. For instance, the Naina Devi temple at Nainital got it's name because Sati's eye fell here. She was the wife of Lord Shiva.
