An Asian Brown Flycatcher (Muscicapa dauurica) perched upright on a dry, weathered stump in a green forest. Its plain grey-brown plumage blends with the surrounding vegetation before an Ashy Drongo (Dicrurus leucophaeus) appears on the same perch. The drongo's glossy blue-grey plumage and long trailing tail are visible as it sits in the open. Both species are aerial insect hunters that use exposed perches to watch for flying prey before making short flights to catch insects.
