This wildlife footage captures the fascinating nest-building behavior of the Black-rumped Flameback (Dinopium benghalense), a common yet remarkable woodpecker species of the Indian subcontinent. Filmed from an angle where the cavity entrance remains hidden, the video focuses on the bird’s head and upper body as it rhythmically moves back and forth, chiseling deep into the tree trunk. With powerful pecks, the flameback removes visible chunks of wood, ejecting them outward as it excavates a nesting cavity.
