A Himalayan Ground Skink warms itself in the sunlight on a stone wall, pausing between quick movements across the rocks. Its slender body blend closely with the earthy surface as it absorbs heat in the mountain sun. The Himalayan Ground Skink (Scincella himalayana, also referred to as Ablepharus himalayanus in older classifications) is a small lizard found across parts of the Himalayas in rocky slopes, forests, and scrub habitats. Like many skinks, it relies on basking to regulate its body temperature and often remains hidden beneath stones, leaf litter, or crevices when inactive. This species feeds mainly on small insects and other invertebrates, playing an important role in controlling tiny invertebrate populations in its habitat.
