Tso Kar, the famous “White Lake” located in the Rupshu Valley of the Indian Himalayas. Breathtaking landscape of Tso Kar, a hypersaline high-altitude lake situated at nearly 14,860 feet in the cold desert region of Ladakh. The lake’s striking aquamarine waters contrast dramatically against the surrounding barren Himalayan mountains and the brilliant white salt deposits lining the shoreline. The white crust visible around the lake consists of salt and mineral efflorescence left behind through evaporation in this arid environment. Marshy wetlands along the lake’s edges create an important ecological habitat for rare Himalayan wildlife including black-necked cranes, kiangs (Tibetan wild asses), migratory waterbirds, and Tibetan wolves.
