Tso Kar in the remote Rupshu Plateau of the Indian Himalayas. Surreal high-altitude landscape of Tso Kar, famously known as the “White Lake” of Ladakh. The lake is surrounded by brilliant white salt crusts formed through mineral-rich evaporation, creating striking patterns across the shoreline and marshlands of the Rupshu Valley. The vast cold desert terrain, sparse vegetation, and rugged Himalayan mountains emphasize the extreme environment of the Changthang plateau at elevations above 14,000 feet. Snow-covered peaks such as Gursan and Thugje rise dramatically in the background, adding to the lake’s breathtaking scenery. The wetlands and salt marshes surrounding Tso Kar form an ecologically important habitat supporting rare Himalayan wildlife including black-necked cranes, bar-headed gees
