Traditional way of cutting bamboo by the Bhutanese

Bamboos are used for a variety of purposes in Bhutan. Interestingly, you would be able to see workers using the ancient way of tearing bamboo. Bamboo can be cut precisely using a fine wood saw or a metal saw. One should be careful at the end of the cut to avoid splits. The Bhutanese worker is using Patang (Knife) to slice a single bamboo into strips. This is the old ways of how Bhutanese used to cut bamboos and it is still practised in the country. Simply roll a sharp knife through the bamboo stalk and push to get it torn apart. It hardly takes 5 to 10 minutes to cut the fresh bamboo depending on the thickness of it.
