Female Sambhar fight on their hind legs and use their forelegs to hit each other in the head, while standing on their hind legs! Interesting sambhar deer behaviour. A female deer scrapes away stones in a pond with her front leg and also stamps her leg up and down. They often congregate near water, and are good swimmers. The sambar (Rusa unicolor) is a large deer native to the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Although it primarily refers to R. unicolor, the name "sambar" is also sometimes used to refer to the Philippine deer (called the Philippine sambar) and the rusa deer (called the Sunda sambar).
