Look how these Greater Flamingos up-end in the deep waters of Thol Sanctuary in Gujarat, India. They kick their legs back to keep their balance and then tip into the water briefly... This is unusual feeding for flamingos that normally filter smaller creates from the water through their complex beaks. Here they seem to be digging into the soil and mud at the bottom of the lake. The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the most widespread species of the flamingo family. It is found in parts of Africa, southern Asia (Bangladesh and coastal regions of Pakistan and India), and southern Europe (including Spain, Albania, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal, Italy and the Camargue region of France).
