Driving in Meghalaya presents two completely different yet equally dramatic experiences—dark mountain nights and mist-covered daytime roads. In certain remote stretches, especially along highways connecting Shillong and Sohra, there are limited or no street lights. At night, the only illumination comes from vehicle headlights cutting through the darkness, revealing sharp bends, steep gradients, and occasional reflective road signs. The surrounding hills remain shadowed, creating a quiet and intense driving atmosphere. By contrast, daytime driving introduces another challenge—dense smog-like mist and drifting clouds that settle directly onto the road. Visibility can change within seconds as mountain fog rolls across the highway. Lush greenery blankets the hillsides, while valleys disappear
