An early morning calm settles over the dry grasslands of Jhalana as a solitary Striped Hyena (Hyaena hyaena) emerges from the golden scrub. The first light of dawn glows softly across the landscape, revealing the hyena’s distinctive stripes and sloping back as it moves with slow, deliberate steps. It walks toward a familiar feeding spot hidden within the tall, brittle grass. Although the carcass is mostly concealed by the dense dry vegetation, the hyena settles down and begins to feed, tearing off small pieces with steady, rhythmic movements. For several minutes, it remains crouched and focused, occasionally pausing to listen to the quiet surroundings.
