This film and song tell the story of the Ganga's journey from the pristine glaciers of the Himalayas to the densely populated cities and plains of India. The lyrics question why a river that gives so much must endure so much suffering. Born crystal clear in the mountains, the Ganga nourishes ecosystems, sustains agriculture, supports millions of people, and holds deep spiritual significance for countless devotees. Yet, as the river enters our towns and cities, its condition changes dramatically. Waste, sewage, and pollution flow into waters that are worshipped as sacred. The song highlights this contradiction: we call the Ganga "Mother," seek purity and salvation in her waters, and celebrate her cultural and spiritual importance, while simultaneously contributing to her degradation.
