Large-Tailed Nightjar is a widespread resident, Himalayas east to Eastern and North-Eastern India and Bangladesh. It is one of the largest nightjars in the Indian Subcontinent with a longer tail and more warmly colored and strongly patterned than Grey nightjar, with pale-rufous brown nuchal collar, complete white throat, well defined buff-edges and bold wedge-shaped black centres to scapular, broad buff tips to coverts forming wing bars, more extensive white or buff in outer tail feathers. It's call is a series of loud resonant calls chaunk-chaunk-chaunk, almost repeated at the rate of 100 times every minute. Usually resides along forest edges. Source : Helm Field Guides.
