Immersing idols in the rivers we treat as Gods gives a shocking evidence of how we are polluting our lakes & rivers. Festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi & Durga Puja involves processions which gathers large amount of crowd who bother little about the effects caused due to immersing idols & dumping garlands & non biodegradable waste in & near the river banks. During the immersion articles such as flowers, polythene bags, foam, decorations, metal polish, plastic sheets, and cosmetic items are thrown into the water adding to the already caused damage. The idols are made of colours, rather to be considered as poisonous ingredient to water. The painted idols are high on zinc, calcium, strontium levels.
