A small but interesting bird, common but rarely seen is the Common Tailorbird's nest. scientifically names Orthotomus sutorius, sutorious meaning a 'cobbler' derived from its behaviour of 'stitching' leaves together as nest. Their nest are not very noticeable to the untrained eye because it is located in part of a tree where foliage is thick or at the end of a branch to avoid being seen. The males are observed to collect materials for building the nest while the females sew leaves together and dry runs of sitting in it to find the perfect fit. A nest with three chicks is filmed inside a mango tree foliage at our Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi. With their beaks gaping open in hunger, a parent drops by with food.
