The 1193 built minaret - spire of Qutub Minar stands out from the semi urban sprawl of South Delhi. Hari Dang even saw Nanda Devi and the Himalaya from the top of the tower back in the 1940's when pollution levels were way lower! The city is catching up with the Mehrauli Archaeological Park which spreads around the Qutub area - now quite a landmark in Delhi, and running along the road to Gurgaon and Chhatarpur. Rows of water tanks and urban sprawl stretch out in several directions as the urban villages of Mehrauli and outdoor restaurant complexes abound in the lal dora or village lands around. The almost entirely exotic forest of Mesquite or Vilayati Keekar (Prosopis juliflora) has killed off the indigenous flora of Dhak or Flame-of-the-forest, Neem, Babul and other indigenous Delhi Ridge
