A Common Jester or Symbrenthia hippoclus flits around on Maidenhair Ferns, as seen in Nainbagh, Uttarakhand, in the Lower Himalaya of the Yamuna River valley. This butterfly is most commonly spotted in hilly forests between 300 metres and 1,500 metres. It mostly flies from March to December. This butterfly is found from Himachal Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh and in the North-Eastern States of India. Symbrenthia lilaea, commonly known as the Common Jester, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is forms a super-species with Symbrenthia hippoclus and there are numerous regional forms and the taxonomy of the group is not well resolved.
