The pilot runs forward with the wing behind him so that turbulence in the wind inflates his chute following a quick run for a perfect forward launch into the air. Once i the air he doesn't wait but quickly adjusts to get into the thermal pocket to get lift. Controls held in each of the pilot’s hands connect to the trailing edge of the left and right sides of the wing. These controls are called "brakes" and provide the primary and most general means of control in a paraglider.
