A Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus), often called a waterhen or swamp chicken, is seen swimming slowly through murky, debris-filled water while actively foraging for food. This medium-sized wetland bird is recognised by its dark plumage, bright red frontal shield, and yellow-tipped bill. As it moves across the water’s surface, the bird carefully scans the surroundings, dipping its head occasionally to pick up aquatic plants, insects, and small invertebrates hidden in the water. The species Gallinula chloropus is commonly found in ponds, marshes, wetlands, and slow-moving waterways where vegetation provides shelter and feeding grounds.
