This Barbet is so full of wild pear pulp in its belly that it can barely move! The Hill Barbet, also know as the Mewli or Piao chidiya is one of the most colourful enigmatic Himalayan birds, with a far reaching call that echoes across the hills and valleys in summer-time, when the birds are breeding. In winter, they tend to keep a low profile sound-wise, but with their loud colours, it is often tough to hide among the foliage! Here, the barbet has just feasted on our wild Himalayan pear fruit and is sitting and digesting the heavy fruit... Not just is its stomach full, but it's beak is too!
