This elegant wading bird is recognized by its long reddish legs, slender black bill, and contrasting black-and-white plumage. The Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) is commonly found in wetlands, marshes, ponds, and flooded fields across India. It typically feeds on aquatic insects, larvae, crustaceans, and other small invertebrates found in shallow water and muddy surfaces. In this scene, the bird moves slowly through the mud while searching for food and occasionally splashes water over its feathers during bathing.
