Muga silkworm (Antheraea assamensis)is endemic to Assam and known for its durability and natural yellowish-golden tint fiber. The reeling process involves boiling of the cocoon after larvae maturation. Certain process involves boiling the cocoon in water along with locally grown vegetable products with alkaline sources. The reeling and spinning are carried out with traditional reeling machines or industry developed machines. The reeled silk is used in manufacturing sarees, mekhalas-chadars.
