During the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, a massive and dynamic scene unfolds beneath a temporary bridge. Winter-migrating Siberian gulls can be seen flying and resting along the river, having traveled thousands of kilometers to India during the colder months. Below the bridge, huge crowds of pilgrims move steadily across temporary pontoon bridges, reflecting the scale of human migration during the Kumbh. In brief glimpses, police and security personnel are visible, stationed to ensure safety and crowd control. Above, vehicles pass continuously over the bridge, while beneath it, the convergence of wildlife, faith, movement, and administration creates a powerful visual narrative of India’s largest religious gathering set against a seasonal natural phenomenon.
