A female Grey Partridge or Safed Titar / Teetar sits on its clutch of eggs laid in a hidden recess in a pile of leaves on the ground, at the Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi. This little scrape in the ground comprises of its nest. The seven eggs are a whitish-cream in colour and while they are not camouflaged, the mother certainly is. You can barely see her as she sits to incubate or warm them. Her mottled browns and greys merge with the leaves around her. This camouflage worked well for her and she successfully bred a brood of baby teetars from these seven eggs! Her earlier clutch had been destroyed (aka eaten up) by a goonda ganga of bandars or Rhesus macaques which tend to eat all birds' eggs and everything in their path, destroying human property and the eggs and nests of birds.
