This archival footage presents a powerful and sobering view of severe monsoon flooding in the rural districts of Katihar, Bihar. Vast areas of the countryside lie submerged beneath muddy floodwaters as residents struggle to cope with the disaster. Young men and children stand waist-deep inside the flooded porch of a partially submerged home, attempting to salvage belongings and hang wet clothes beneath the shelter of a corrugated metal roof supported by bamboo poles. Nearby, villagers carefully harvest chilli peppers from inundated fields in an effort to save whatever crops remain. As heavy rain and dense fog reduce visibility, villagers wade through floodwaters while evacuating cattle and other livestock to safer ground along a partially submerged roadway.
